Las Fuerzas Armadas están constituidas por el Ejército de Tierra, la Armada, el Ejército del Aire y los Cuerpos Comunes.
La condición de militar se adquiere, al incorporarse a las Fuerzas Armadas, tras superar unas determinadas pruebas de ingreso, estableciéndose de este modo, una relación de servicios profesionales de carácter temporal o permanente.
- Los militares de tropa y marinería, que constituyen la base de las Fuerzas Armadas, establecen su relación de servicios profesionales mediante compromisos de carácter temporal y podrán acceder a la condición de militar de carrera en la forma que se especifica en la ley.
- Los militares de complemento son oficiales que establecen su relación de servicios profesionales mediante compromisos de carácter temporal para atender necesidades específicas de las Fuerzas Armadas
- Los militares de carrera son quienes mantienen una relación de servicios profesionales de carácter permanente. Les corresponde asegurar la continuidad y estabilidad de la estructura, el funcionamiento y los valores esenciales de las Fuerzas Armadas en el marco constitucional. Aquí se integran las escalas de suboficiales, oficiales y oficiales generales.
Todos estos militares se integrarán en los distintos cuerpos, de acuerdo con los cometidos que deban desempeñar. Dentro de cada cuerpo, los militares se agrupan en escalas que se corresponden con las diferentes categorías militares. El acceso a una escala está condicionado por los requisitos educativos exigidos para su incorporación.

Here the scales of sergeant majors, officials are integrated and generals. All these military will integrate themselves in the different bodies, in agreement with the assignments that must carry out. Within each body, the military group themselves in scales that correspond with the different military categories. The access on a scale is in favor conditional of the demanded educative requirements for its incorporation.
